Course Description
This is a professional course which exposes teacher-trainees to the theory and practices of teaching. It is divided into three (3) major areas: Part I which acquaints them with the knowledge of designing, developing, implementing as well as making further innovations in curriculum for the betterment and transformation of the education system as a whole. Part II introduces them to the range of alternative teaching and learning materials to enable them adopt and adapt to the various classroom situations as well as acquainting the student teacher with an understanding of the theory underlying these materials and subjecting them to the challenge of integrating the theory of instructional technology into the real practice of teaching and learning. The second section covers the concept of sociology and sociology of education. Various sociological concepts and their relationship to education are considered. Sociological factors influencing education such as culture, home and school environments are also examined. Contemporary issues and problems are examined from a sociological perspective.
