Sool region has experienced significant expansion in its education system more especially in the primary and secondary sectors. Moreover, the regional education officers and community education committees continue to exert significant pressure on the lean staff already existing in educational institutions. In response to these emerging trends in the national education system, the Faculty of Education of NU introduced a 3-year Bachelor of Education (external) programme. This programme is geared towards providing further training opportunity to secondary and primary school teachers who are diploma holders and are in employment yet still interested in developing the career. It is a modular programme designed to prepare teachers who would competently handle higher tasks in education. In this regard, candidates are provided with additional subject content as well as professional papers, which assist them in acquiring a wide range of necessary knowledge and skills.

Professional component:

Bachelor of Education is a three year program where students are expected to take papers from three major subjects in each semester, namely Education (Professional) and two teaching subjects from any discipline taught at secondary school level. Those whose teaching subject is a double main take it as their teaching subjects and administrators who may opt for specialization in one of the professional courses take this course as their second content subject.

Future faculty prospects:

The graduates of this department are expected to participate in the teaching professions in Sool region where they are highly needed specializing in four departments and these are: Foundations of Education, Educational Psychology, Educational Management and Administration, and Curriculum and Instruction.
