The department of Medical Laboratory Sciences upgrading was established in 2016 by the upgrading of students having Diploma Program From Sool Institute of Health Science, the majors of the Department is Microbiology, Parasitology, Immunology, Clinical Laboratory and Hematology, In that redesigning process, Nugaal University Specialized Hospital-Manhal Hospital (NUSH-MH) diagnostic laboratory and pathology section are also organized under the umbrella of the Department of MLS in collaboration with the hospital clinical and administration team under the College of Public Health and Medical Sciences. Thus, the composition and activities of the department reflect those of its constituent former departments and units.
It encompasses about 4 academic staff at different level of education (i.e. from Technical Assistants to Lecturers) who are involved in different tasks including teaching, training and mentoring for undergraduate, and post-graduate students, involving in research works, community and diagnostic services. On the other hand, currently, there are 12 Medical Laboratory professionals at the hospital service laboratory of NUSH.

- RATIONALE
The need assessment we conducted in Sool region and neighboring areas shows that there is a severe shortage of competent health professionals both in terms of quality and quantity.
At present, even though the number of training institutions is increasing in the country, many reports show that still there is huge demand for health officers because they can work in any health institutions as clinician and administrative body.
The main feature of this curriculum thus is to make the trainee more competitive, effective and able to perform All routine laboratory procedures. And it is this objective that promoted Nugaal University to launch a degree program in Medical Laboratory Technology.

- The candidate should be a Laboratory Technician.
- The minimum education requirement is Diploma in Laboratory Technician,
from MoH and SOMLA recognized Institution
- Pass both written entry exam, Selection of the candidates should be based on the merit of the qualifying examination
- The candidate shall be medically fit.
- Class should not exceed 40 students
