Nugaal University opened Nursing program in 2013 to alleviate the shortage of health professionals in the country in general and Sool Region specifically.
The main purpose of the undergraduate degree in nursing is to provide an educational program through which the graduates will be prepared to assume responsibility in the primary, secondary and tertiary health care of people as professional nurses. It is expected that graduates are capable of teaching and supervising appropriate nursing and health care in different settings and participate in the administration of nursing service and education.
1. RATIONALE
This country remain with the highest maternal and child Morbidity and mortality.
To tackle this problem primary health care strategy is the best entry point. For this reason, nursing department are the key agents to the implementation of primary health care and expected to bringing optimal change in Health Sector Development Program (HSDP) goals. The program BSc in Nursing remained to be launched and continued for the following reasons.
- It is somehow difficult currently to produce enough health professionals, because mainly shortage of man power and physical facilities.
- Lack of effective collaborations of healthcare committed to improving best practices in health promotion, disease prevention, quality, safety and equality.
- Though the developed world has the best access of human resource, still the brain drain continues from the poor world and without investing anything they get ready made human resource and they utilize them, whereas the poor part of the world after investing too much money through loan from monetary fund and world bank for training, it gets allotted, as well as the population might not get a chance of utilizing their own human resources which is very crucial issue at present.
The number of health professionals in the country, particular nursing is still low despite increase the number of training institutions. In the meantime, this curriculum is being designed for the training of nursing who will serve the vulnerable community since majority of the population is poor and lives in country side. Therefore, the trained nurses would be utilized effectively and efficiently whether there is strict monitoring and close follow up of the teaching and learning process as well as conducive educational environment and better handling of the graduated citizens.

2. OBJECTIVES
The objectives of the program are to produce competent nursing graduate who can;
- Provide nursing care for individuals, families and communities following sound scientific ways of nursing processes
- Demonstrate competence in the skills and techniques of nursing based on concepts and principles from selected areas of physical, biological and behavioural sciences
- Participate as members of health team in the promotive, preventive, curative and rehabilitative health care delivery system of the country
- Demonstrate leadership qualities and decision-making abilities in various situations
- Recognize the need for continued learning for their personal relations and professional development
- Demonstrate skills in teaching, management, inter-personal relations and communication
3. LEARNING OUTCOMES

ELIGIBILITY
Candidates shall be admitted for the Top-up degree, if he/she Fulfils the following requirements:-
- The candidate should be a qualified Nurse.
- The minimum education requirement is Diploma in general nursing and High school recognized Institution certificate.
- Pass both written entry exam, selection of the candidates should be based on the merit of the qualifying examination
- The candidate shall be medically fit.
