Through the rich experience gained in the past years in Academic fields, Nugaal University has built its capacity to launch multiple degree programs in selected field of studies, one of which is bachelor degree in Clinical Health Officer (HO).

Clinical health officer is an academic program of four years, which focus more clinical aspects with public health courses, it is aimed to have health professionals who can deal with uncomplicated (not need higher specialties) daily medical conditions, whereby they can fulfill majority local community health needs.

The need assessment we conducted in Sool region and neighboring areas showed that there is a severe shortage of competent health professionals both in terms of quality and quantity.  sool region we have established faculty of health officers on September 2012 as  a plan based on the needs for clinicians, we preferred health officer of 4year than medicine of 6 years because of relatively easy  requirements for  health officers  such as number of teachers , teaching hospital and  short period of graduation, students in this faculty will be upgraded in to  full doctors in extra three years of teaching and training until  of enough capacity for medicine we cover community health needs with clinical health officer  program.

Rationale

According to the assessments and different reports  about shortage in medical doctors and increasing needs for management of common diseases in the community we have set a curriculum that can fullfil the situational needs and could transformed to full medicine when the capacity become possible.

• To provide an academic program that can fulfill situational needs and could be upgraded into medicine in three year extra time.
• To reduce mortality and morbidity rates for communicable diseases in the community.

Mission

• The Faculty of health officers have prepared curriculum and other teaching materials including demonstrating room as well as teaching hospital to have competent health professionals who can fill the gap of health service in the region.

Admission criteria

The candidates must:

• Complete high school education successfully with average score of at least “C”
• Meet the other set criteria of the Nugaal University to join the program
• Be fully sponsored by Private, Governmental or Nongovernmental organizations or Self
• Be physically and mentally fit
• Able to pass the entrance exam set by the University
• Have full interest to serve the community as public health officer
