Nugaal University is an accredited higher education institution that was constituted in 14 September 2004, by a visionary group of intellectuals; who saw the need and gaps in the area of higher education in the region. The university is located in the heart of Lasanod city, Sool Region. Nugaal University received its official charter to function as an institute of higher education in 2004. Since then NU has attained great milestones in providing quality and affordable education to the people of Sool region and Neighboring regions.

Nugaal University locates in the mountainous historical city of Lasanod – the headquarters of Sool Region. This historic city has significant historical importance for the population of the region. As a national defensive line, it once served as the logistical centre and overall base of operation for the Dervish resistance, led and commanded by Sayid Mohamed Abdille Hassan, during the pre-independence colonial era.
